When it comes to landscapes, Uganda is possibly the most diverse country on the African continent. Karamoja, in the extreme north east, is a vast savanna plain with ancient volcanoes popping out of the landscape. Mount Elgon, shared with Kenya, is one of the largest volcanoes by circumnavigation and is covered with a dense primary forest. The west of Uganda has the Rwenzori Mountains, the highest mountain range in Africa plastered with glaciers while the southwest, also dubbed as the Gorilla Highlands, is blessed with a series of spectacular volcanoes. And all these places offer epic hikes, sometimes with a chance to see rare, endangered wildlife.
This website aims to inspire, inform and serve as a planning tool for your next Uganda hiking adventure. We don't describe the hiking routes turn by turn, as each hike must be accompanies by a wildlife ranger or a guide. We do tell you all about the various hiking options, including beautiful photographs and maps and how you can organise this directly with the local hiking outfitter and / or Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
Enjoy browsing through the superb hikes that Uganda has to offer!
